they haunt me at night
i can feel them calling out to me as i pass them
as they rest there in the dark
as the Earth reaches up and grabs them
and takes them back inch by inch
when i close my eyes my mind takes me to them
down the highways and delivers me at their gate
and even though i’m blind in the dark
i know they’re out there
Anonymous asked: How do you EQ your Sunn when you play Cloakroom songs?
I use the same settings for both Native and Cloakroom. High Bass and Low bass on like 7.5. Mid and High on 6.5. Volume anywhere from 3 to 4.
MEB RATING: 8.0
At first glance, it would be easy to dismiss Native’s new album, Orthodox. After all, there has been a plethora of great melodic hardcore and post-hardcore records released this year, and Native just haven’t received the hype artists like Defeater, Modern Life Is War, and Touché Amoré have. It’s really unfortunate that this is the case, because Orthodox proves that they deserve to be mentioned amongst the genre’s elite. Whether it be because of the tight, technical performances, the interesting math rock influence, or the band’s penchant for darkly atmospheric songwriting, Orthodox is consistently successful.
What stands out most, at least initially, is Native’s ability to craft some really intense songs that feel equally gloomy and visceral. From the absolutely brutal finale of “Monday Night” to the ominous chugging of “Coin Toss”, the album is very heavy in a way that feels truly urgent. Even quieter, more melodic sections still feel dark, even if they’re not as in-your-face as the loudest moments. The pulsating feedback outro of “Books On Tape” is a tense, almost uncomfortable creation, and it is in a similar vein to the guitar scratches that break up brief spots of melody and sweetness on “Brass”
I love Doyle and I love Cloakroom, so this is easily one of my favourite video segments to date.
After walking a mile to get to the record store the lady working said we weren’t allowed to film, so I asked to speak to the manager and somehow managed to blag it and he said i could film for no longer than 5 minutes. Somehow we managed to sneak around and stay for nearly half an hour and get the footage we needed. So glad it all worked out because Doyle is hilarious and picked some awesome new records that I have since checked out and like a lot.
Oh and subscribe to our channel so I can show Jeff it was a good move hiring me and maybe convince him to give me a raise :)
